Investigating the Reasons for Using Smokeless Tobacco Among Adults: A Qualitative Study Based on the Grounded Theory Approach

Background: The use of smokeless tobacco is a public health problem worldwide. these substances can cause various diseases and increase mortality. Objectives: aim this qualitative study was to explain the reasons for using based on grounded theory approach. Patients Methods: We conducted approach in 2020 - 2021. Participants were adult users Chabahar city, southeast Iran. strategy choosing participants purposeful sampling continued till theoretical saturation achieved. Thirty adults who participated interviews voluntarily. used techniques such as asking questions, constant comparisons, writing memos collect data, which analyzed presented by Corbin Strauss 2008. Results: Two themes emerged from data analysis (the context consumption need effective supervision), each had several subcategories. opportunity first main category contextual factors frequently mentioned participants, whose subcategories included culture, individual general beliefs, family members. Insufficient supervision second category, three subcategories, profitable market, insufficient supervision, easy access. Conclusions: In general, two tendency consume tobacco: supervision. Concepts consumer’s members friends being users, access key pushing people different ages toward city.
